Giovani Dos Santos was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on May 11, 1989. He started his soccer career at an early age. He was started in the Mexican Soccer Club; Monterrey FC. Later, he and his brother Jonathan were chosen to join Barcelona’s youth academy at age 12. He stayed there and was promoted to Barcelona’s reserve team. At 16 he was chosen to participate in Mexico’ Sub-17 team at the World Cup in 2005 who later won the tournament. After winning many opportunities opened up for him. He was promoted to Barcelona’s reserve team and was able to train with the senior team. In July 2006 he made his first debut in the pre-season with Barcelona. In 2007, he participated in the Copa America Sub-20 with Mexico’s National team. He was also first incorporated to Mexico’s Major Team due to the coach Hugo Sanchez. His first appearance in La Liga was September 19, 2007. He scored his first goal and they beat Athletic Bilbao 3-1.  In 2008, he moved to Tottenham, he decided to go to the second division since he didn’t get enough playing time. In 2010, he was transferred to Galastaray, later, in 2011 he was transferred to Racing de Santander.  Giovani Participated in the 2011 Gold Cup and defeated U.S.A. in the finals. He also took part in the 2012 London Olympics, and won defeating Brazil. In 2012, he was transferred to RCD Mallorca, but later the team got relegated and he was invited to Villarreal. He stayed there until this summer. He was called to play in the 2015 Gold Cup and played the first game in which Mexico defeated Cuba 6-0. Unfortunately, Giovani was injured and missed out the rest of the season. That didn’t stop Mexico from winning the Gold Cup, but was extremely criticized due to supposedly help from the refs throughout the whole tournament. This summer he left Villarreal, and joined L.A. Galaxy.  His parents are Liliana Ramírez and Geraldo Francisco Dos Santos. His father is from Brazil and his mother is Mexican. Giovani's siblings are  Jonathan dos Santos and Éder dos Santos, both of them also play soccer but Éder doesn't play in a known league.
